EMPLOYMENT INITIATIVES

An innovative and economically thriving Auburn

Auburn City Council's economic vision is 'to improve the local job market and to support local business initiatives and learning opportunities.'

Employment and learning opportunities are recognised by Council’s Community Development Unit as significant areas in need of local partnership and program initiatives.

A central aim of the Auburn Strategic Social Plan 2005 - 2010 is 'significant improvement in Auburn’s profile of relative disadvantage'.

Research shows that many Auburn residents experience multiple disadvantage. Concentrations of particular disadvantage, such as recency of arrival, arrival as a refugee, poor or no English language skills, little or no familiarity with ‘western’ civic, political or social systems add considerable weight to the burdens of poverty, unemployment and housing stress.
