What is Economic Development in Local Government?

Economic Development is a multidisciplinary approach to the business and community sectors that seek to encourage innovation and lead to increased individual, business and community capacity.

It promotes co-operation between a range of stakeholders to drive local and regional development in the short and long term. It is a process of identifying and harnessing local and regional resources and opportunities to stimulate economic and employment activity. It is about communities utilising their human, physical and financial resources to maintain and enhance their unique strengths and quality of life.

A thriving economy offers jobs closer to home for an educated, diverse and flexible workforce whilst supporting increased capacity for trade, innovation and entrepreneurship.
