COMMUNITY SAFETY

Safety means different things to different people. It is not just about the level of crime in our community. It is also about how people feel in the community and about developing and implementing programs that can also prevent unintentional injury.

Auburn City Council's Community Safety and Education Officer works towards ensuring a safer Auburn community through providing information, consulting with the local community and developing innovative community safety programs.

For more information, contact our Community Safety and Education Officer on (02) 9735 1209.

Auburn Crime Prevention Plan 2009 - 2012

Auburn City Council’s Crime Prevention Plan 2009 - 2012 has recently been adopted by Council and endorsed by the NSW Attorney General.

Some of the activities being implemented as part of the plan include:

Tamper Resistant One Way Screws (Rego Plate Lock)

Tamper Resistant One Way Screws fasten your license plates to your car and cannot be removed except by an authorised remover (Council’s Community Safety & Education Officer and the Police).

This strategy is to reduce the number of license plates being stolen in Auburn City area and used for crimes such as robbery and petrol theft.

If you would like a set, just make contact Council’s Community Safety and Education Officer to advise your vehicle type and registration and personal contact details.

Call (02) 9735 1209 to organise a time to meet. The screws are easy to install - you just need a screwdriver.

Community Safety Audits
In partnership with Auburn Police, Auburn City Council conducts Community Safety Audits at crime hotspots throughout the local area.

All Audit reports are available from Council’s libraries in Auburn, Regents Park, Lidcombe and Newington.
A Community Safety Audit is an opportunity for local residents get involved in crime prevention strategies for their local area, in cooperation with Police and Council.

All recommendations from audits are then reviewed and monitored by the Auburn Crime Prevention Plan Committee.

This Committee ensures all suggested actions are undertaken within a nominated timeframe.

For more information or to participate in future audits, please contact 9735 1209.
