Nappy library

Save thousands and trial cloth nappies for free

Cloth nappies have come a long way since terry towelling squares. Modern versions are much more absorbent, less bulky and easier to wash. Plus they are just as easy to use as disposables.

Because there are so many different types of cloth nappies for sale and because Council wants to promote the use of cloth nappies, Auburn City Council will be trialling the first nappy library in Sydney. The nappy library will start operating on the 4th of October 2011 and will run for a trial period of three months.

Borrowers will be supplied with two different types of nappies supplied in a pack of two. Instructions are included in the pack on how to use and wash the nappies.

Using the nappy library is completely free.

How will the nappy library work?

  1. Become an Auburn City library member, or use your current   membership.
  2. Choose which nappy pack you would like to try using the nappy guide at the library.
  3. Borrow the nappy pack in the same way you would borrow a book.
  4. Take your nappy pack home, read the use and care instructions and start using nappies with your baby. Wash nappies after every use according to instructions.
  5. Fill out the nappy feedback form.
  6. At the end of the borrowing period (3 weeks) clean the nappies and return them to Auburn library.

Karyn Robinson, Council’s Sustainability Officer says: “The main benefit for using cloth nappies is, that it is much cheaper than using disposable nappies. Mums will be able to save at least $1000 a year.”

“New mums have said they would like to have the opportunity to try before you buy. This is where the idea of the nappy library started. There are so many different types of cloth nappies available. The library is a great way to work out which one is going to work out best for you.”

All nappies are professionally cleaned after every return.
