STORMWATER MANAGEMENT

Drainage amplification aims to limit the occurrence of flooding to an acceptable level of severity and frequency. Works normally include the construction of new stormwater drainage pipelines and pits or the reconstruction of existing stormwater drainage pipelines and pits.

Drainage amplification work is generally carried out in areas where flooding problems have been brought to the attention of Auburn City Council and Council has investigated the cause, assessed the frequency and severity and has costed and prioritised the required remedial work. This work is sometimes carried out in conjunction with road reconstruction work.

Criteria for drainage amplification work

The prioritisation of the drainage amplification work is based on the severity of flooding. For example, is the flooding:
  • Confined to road pavement
  • Confined to road pavement and footpath
  • Flooding private property below habitable floor levels
  • Flooding private property above habitable floor levels
