e-Waste recycling
e-Waste recyclingElectronic Waste, also known as e-Waste is growing at more than three times the rate of general waste. e-Waste includes items such as:
  • Computers including desktop PCs and laptops, monitors, hard drives, keyboards, computer mice and power supplies.
  • Handheld devices such as iPods and iMacs.
  • Electronic games, joysticks, game consoles including handheld devices
  • Televisions, video players, DVD players, hi-fi equipment, stereo equipment, digital cameras and video cameras.
  • Telephones, mobile phones, faxes and printers as well as print cartridges.

e-Waste can contain toxic materials such as lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium and brominated fire retardants that are hazardous, difficult to dispose of and can be very environmentally damaging. In 2006, around 1.6 million computers were disposed of into landfill. With decreasing space for landfill and the increase demand of recycling, Auburn City Council is committed to reducing waste to landfill and providing alternate environmentally sustainable disposal methods.

Previous e-Waste collection events

e-Waste collection events On Saturday 25 February 2012, Council organised a successful e-waste collection for all residents across the LGA collecting over 20 tonnes of
e-waste - our largest collection since commencing the e-waste events!

Council encourages residents to store their e-waste within their homes and wait for the next e-waste drop off collection day. By taking your
e-waste to the collection events rather than placing them on the kerbside or in the garbage bin, you will be reducing chemicals from entering the environment and saving landfill space.

The next collection is expected to be held in August 2012 at the Auburn Baseball Club Carpark - Euston Road, Auburn.

Please keep an eye out for information regarding the collection event in the local paper, Council's newsletter and mailbox flyers.
