FAUNA RESERVE AND AVIARY

The Fauna Reserve

Opened in 1994, the Fauna Reserve at Auburn Botanic Gardens is home to flora and fauna that was indigenous to the Auburn area before it was developed.

There are many animals in the Reserve, including Swamp Wallabies, Red Necked Wallabies, Eastern Grey Kangaroos, Emus, Rufous Bettong and the Common Wombat.

The Aviary

The beautiful Aviary is located opposite the entrance to the Japanese Garden and is home to birds from Australia and Asia.

Visitors are welcome to watch the Fauna Keeper feed the animals at weekends at 10.00am and 2.00pm.

Opening Hours

The Fauna Reserve and Aviary are open Monday to Sunday between 9 am and 4 pm.

Conditions of Entry

Please note that feeding the animals, birds and fish in the Botanic Gardens is strictly prohibited. All animals, birds and fish are fed according to their needs by Council’s specialist Fauna Keeper. Overfeeding and inappropriate food can cause serious health problems.

Children in the Fauna Reserve and Aviary must be supervised by a responsible person at all times.

So that the animals in the Fauna Reserve do not become overly nervous, large groups of visitors are not permitted unless prior arrangements have been made with Botanic Gardens staff.

Failure to comply with the Botanic Gardens Conditions of Entry can result in removal from the Gardens and/or a minimum fine of $110.
