Blind spotWhat you can do as a driver

  • Look for motorcyclists – front, rear, left and right
  • Think bike and look - especially at intersections
  • Check blind spots - look in mirrors and over your shoulder
  • Give motorcyclists plenty of space - keep a 3 second gap
  • Use lights in poor visibility
  • Change lanes carefully - look and indicate
  • Drive at a safe speed
  • DON'T drink and drive
  • Slow down for poor road conditions - report if dangerous
  • Check brakes and tyres regularly
  • Avoid dropping oil and debris on the road
  • Update knowledge and skills regularly
  • Stop and rest on trips regularly

  • Look for motorists who aren't looking
  • Be prepared to take evasive action at intersections
  • Ride to be seen, not in blind spots 
  • Give cars plenty of space - keep a 3 second gap
  • Use / flash lights to alert drivers if appropriate
  • Change lanes carefully - look and indicate
  • Ride at a safe speed
  • DON'T drink and ride
  • Slow down for poor road conditions – report if dangerous
  • Check brakes and tyres regularly
  • Brief pillions on road safety
  • Avoid loaning your motorcycle to the unlicensed and inexperienced
  • Wear standards approved and fitted helmets and wear suitable protective clothing
