Auburn City Council opposes dual role of Councillor and state MP
Auburn City Council will provide a submission to the Department of Local Government to oppose Councillors serving terms concurrently as Members of Parliament.
At yesterday’s Council meeting (Wednesday 7th December 2011), councillors voted to oppose the dual roles of councillor and state MP and to make a submission to the DLG expressing their opposition.
Currently none of the Auburn Councillors fulfil a role as NSW State MP.
Minister for Local Government, Don Page has released a discussion paper aimed at eliciting community feedback following ongoing public commentary on the issue. The link to the discussion papers is below. It also contains details on how to make a submission to the Department.
The closing date for submissions is 31st January 2011.
