COUNCIL'S TREE POLICY: IMPROVING OUR LOCAL ENVIRONMENT
Auburn City Council is dedicated to protecting, retaining and enhancing tree coverage throughout the Auburn Local Government Area.
Council’s draft Tree Policy and Framework Plan sets a clear plan to promote the aesthetic, environmental and financial benefits of trees for the community.
Parks and Recreation Manager, David Sheils, said Council has greatly improved the management of trees by:
- Introducing a public tree maintenance program that follows best practice standards for the pruning of trees;
- Initiating regular street and park tree planting events;
- Introducing an annual tree giveaway program; and
- Outlining how the community can get in contact with Council to voice their suggestions or concerns.
“Good tree coverage obviously provides shade and improves air quality in the local environment,” Mr Sheils said.
“Trees can also help create a ‘sense of place’, soften or screen buildings, keep summer temperatures lower and help landowners maintain higher land values with more attractive streets.
