Councillor Ronney Oueik elected as new Mayor of Auburn
At Auburn City Council’s extraordinary meeting on the 15th September 2010, Councillor Ronney Oueik was elected as the 24th Mayor since the Amalgamation in 1949, with Councillor Jack Au elected to serve as Deputy Mayor.
Liberal Councillor Ronney Oueik was first elected to Council in 2004. At his inaugural speech last night, Ronney said: “I want to work as a team with my fellow councillors so we can achieve the best for our community.”
“Most recently Council implemented a drop off and pick up zone for Auburn Public School on Beatrice and Helena Streets so children can enter the school gates safely and avoid parking issues around schools.”
“In order to help local mums and dads, Council will be undertaking a traffic study in the next year to see whether the implementation of more drop off and pick up zones around schools are possible.”
“I want to personally and encourage other Councillors to visit businesses in all town centres on a regular basis to talk about their needs and requirements. I want them to know that their views are important and that Council will be addressing any issues they may have.”
“To provide better access to businesses and amenities, I want to develop a parking strategy in the town centres.”
“I want to work towards creating facilities and programs for youth and continue to create greener and cleaner neighbourhoods with more street tree planting and by continuing our waste education program.”
“I wish to acknowledge the work over the past 12 months of Clr Hicham Zraika and thank him for his commitment on behalf of the community.”
Finally, I would like to thank my family, and Deputy Mayor Izzet Anmak, fellow Councillors and Council staff for their support. I look forward to working with them to ensure that matters that affect the people of Auburn are looked after in the most effective and efficient way.”
