AUBURN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE
Auburn’s first ever opportunity to highlight best practice in community development takes place on Wednesday 22 February at Auburn Centre for the Community.

It will be an important platform to discuss the guiding principles of community development, where participation, empowerment, social justice and accessibility are the building blocks to stronger communities.

This is an opportunity to showcase best practices as well as analyse the challenges in developing and building the capacities of communities.

The purposes of the conference are to:
        • Promote collaboration, exchange of ideas and capacity building amongst local community workers,
        • Challenge ideas and issues and to benchmark best practice projects and models,
        • Highlight, advocate and lobby on identified local issues,
        • Raise the profile of Auburn to the broader community sector and other levels of government,
        • Showcase multiculturalism, and
        • Outline what is happening in the community development sector.

Auburn Mayor Ronney Oueik said that Council’s Community Development Team plans, supports and develops a range of quality community services, facilities and programs to suit local needs.

“This team works in partnership with community groups and organisations representing Auburn’s diverse communities,” he said.

“The concept has been developed in line with core principles of inclusiveness, collaboration, capacity building, equity and responsiveness.”

The Conference is free to government and non-government agencies in the LGA area, service providers, voluntary organisations, and students of social work, community development, youth work and welfare course students.
