IN TUNE WITH COMMUNITY CHOIRS PROJECT
Auburn City Council, in partnership Opera Australia, is set to provide a unique experience for Auburn and Newington Community Choir members.
The choirs will take part in Western Sydney’s Community Choruses Project, along with other community choirs across the region. The project will be led by renowned Opera Australia Conductor, Simon Kenway, who will work with each group to learn popular operatic choruses.
The Auburn and Newington Community Choirs are part of the Lifelong Learning Program run each term by Council and are on the hunt for new members.
The project will culminate in a mass combined choral event at the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House on 18 August 2012. All the groups from across Western Sydney will come together to perform. The Opera House performance will be accompanied by the full Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra.
The Auburn and Newington Choirs sang at the Autumn Colours Festival launch at the Peacock Gallery at Auburn Botanic Gardens and look forward to performing at local events later in the year.
The choirs meet during school terms, with Auburn Community Choir meeting Tuesdays, 7pm- 9pm, at the Auburn Centre for Community and the Newington Community Choir meeting on the first three Fridays of each month from 10am-12pm at Newington Community Centre. Both choirs welcome new members and offer the opportunity to try the first session for free.
