LEARN TO LOVE AT YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY
You can’t always judge a book by its cover, but to support the Australian Library and Information Association’s Library Lovers’ Day, you and a book are invited to embrace one another.
We all have books that we love – old favourites with familiar themes and authors that we go back to again and again. But if you are hungry to try something different, or want to discover a new author, try a “Blind Date with a Book” at Auburn City Library Service branches between the 10-20 February.
Auburn City Council’s Client Services Coordinator Pamela Davies explains how the event works.
“The only clue readers have before choosing a book is an advertisement promoting the book’s popular attributes,” she said.
“Library staff have lovingly handpicked books that they think will appeal to a wide range of readers and have written a description for each book to help match it with the perfect reader.
“All you have to do is read the descriptions to see if a book will appeal to you and take it to the desk for borrowing – but no unwrapping before you take the book home, this is one time when you won’t be able to judge a book by its cover.”
This special event is being held to celebrate Library Lovers Day and to encourage reading in Auburn during Australia’s National Year of Reading. It will continue for eleven days or until all eligible books have been snapped up by lucky readers – so take the initiative!
