Local children have a hand in fabulous public artwork in Berala town centre

The walls of Berala station have been transformed into a growing public artwork created by Berala primary school students. Thirty students from years 4 to 6 took part in the Berala after school creative arts program. They painted and designed ‘fabulous creatures’ on ceramic tiles with guidance and help from local artist Michelle Tran.

The 'Fabulous Creatures' are based on wild and exotic animals. The children have made their own interpretation of existing animals resulting in strange new creatures.

The after school program was co-ordinated with help from Council’s life-long learning volunteer, Linda Tran.

Mayor Ronney Oueik said: “The Fabulous Creatures Public Artwork has lifted the walls at Berala Station. Commuters and residents passing through now have something to look at and enjoy.”

“I congratulate the children for their artistic contributions and I especially thank local artist Michelle Tran and our committed lifelong learning volunteer Linda Tran for guiding and co-ordinating the program.”

“We are also grateful for the support of our project partners; Berala Public School and RailCorp.”

The first part of the ‘Fabulous Creatures’ artwork was completed and installed last year at Berala station.

The second part of the artwork will be unveiled at Berala Station entrance on Friday 16th December 2011 from 10am to 11am. The participating students will be presented with certificates.
