Multi-lingual workshops cater to local business needs
Business owners in Auburn, Fairfield and Holroyd want easy access information on topics such as marketing advice, food handling legislation and finance management.
Many of these business owners have recently arrived and speak English as second language.
To provide businesses with information in community languages such as Arabic, Turkish and Chinese, Auburn City Council, Holroyd Council, Fairfield Council and the University of Western Sydney have joined forces and organised a number of multi lingual free workshops:
Cantonese/Mandarin - 14/9, 21/9 and 28/9 in Fairfield City
Arabic - 15/9, 22/9 and 29/9 in Holroyd City
Turkish - 16/9, 23/9 and 30/9 in Auburn City
The workshops will focus on the following topics:
- Business planning and marketing your business
- New food handling legislation and marketing your restaurant or cafe
- Managing finances and insurances
Businesses will receive translated handouts and have the opportunity to provide feedback and network with other businesses.
Mayor Hicham Zraika said:”This is a unique opportunity for businesses to learn useful techniques such as managing cash flow and getting more customers, in their own language. Often their knowledge of English is limited especially when it comes to business jargon. By providing information in their first language they are able to overcome those barriers.”
“By working in collaboration with other Western Sydney Councils, we have been able to provide a number of workshops on a wider range of topics.”
