Station Road Bridge opens for traffic this Friday
The brand new Station Road Bridge will open for all traffic on Friday the 1st October 2010. The old two lane bridge has been upgraded to a four-lane bridge with widened footpaths.
Work on the bridge commenced in January 2010 and has been completed successfully within the allocated construction period. The new bridge will have a dedicated left turning lanes going in both directions, resolving traffic queues going over the bridge.
During the construction period the bridge was closed and traffic was diverted around the town centre.
“I would like to thank the residents, business owners, taxi drivers and all the motorists for their co-operation and patience in the past six months. The road closure has affected journey times in and out of the town centres,” said Mayor Ronney Oueik.
“Many thanks to Railcorps and their construction partner Novorail for their efficiency and hard work ensuring this project finished on time.”
The new bridge is a joint project of Auburn City Council and RailCorp, costing approximately $9 million. Actual construction work on the bridge was undertaken by contractor Novorail.
NSW Minister for Transport John Robertsonwill officially open the bridge on 11th of October with Mayor Ronney Oueik.
