STRENGTHENING COUNCIL’S GREEN CREDENTIALS
Auburn City Council now has two new horticulture apprentices on board for the Inaugural
Autumn Colours Festival on 19 May 2012 at the Auburn Botanic Gardens.
Justin Kolodynski and Stephanie Kennedy have arrived on a four-year apprenticeship at Council and will be maintaining gardens in Auburn’s parks and town centres.
Their employment is an example of Council’s commitment to greening the region and providing training opportunities throughout the local area.
Mayor Ronney Oueik outlined the importance of the natural environment to the lifestyle in Auburn City.
“We maintain approximately 90 parks with about 150 hectares of open space and Council has a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and urban planning.” he said.
“We are thrilled to have Justin and Stephanie learn their trade with us over the next four years and help us keep our parks and recreation areas looking terrific.”
The Autumn months are among the most spectacular at the Botanic Gardens, when the leaves of Japanese maple and Chinese Tallow Wood trees begin to change and the scenery is filled with splashes of vibrant colour.
