Grant funding successful for Auburn flood mitigation projects
NSW Emergency Services Minister Steve Whan announced today that Auburn City Council’s grant applications for $90,000 have been successful under the Natural Disaster Resilience Scheme.
Auburn City Council submitted a two grant applications to the Department of Emergency Services to carry out the following flood mitigation projects:
- Flood Study and risk management for Deakin Street Channel - Total Funding Approved: $40,000
- Phillips Park, Lidcombe – Detention Basin Stage 1 - Design and documentation - Total Funding Approved: $50,000
Council wants to identify the flood levels flood lines and the extent of the flood prone area for the Deakin Street area, near the Sydney Water Channel. The detention basin at Phillips Park will collect the storm water run-off and prevent possible flooding of nearby properties.
“Thanks to this grant funding Council is able to carry out two important flood mitigation projects in the Auburn area. The Deakin Street Channel Floodstudy is the remaining flood study required for the Auburn area. Council is currently undertaking a review of the Haslam’s Creek flood study and as a joint project with neighbouring councils Parramatta and Bankstown, we are also undertaking a flood study of the Duck River catchment area. This will enable us to effectively manage the flood risk and to provide advice to people buying or developing homes in the area,” said Mayor Hicham Zraika.
