Auburn City Council has overcome a competitive field of state-finalist entries of local councils from across New South Wales, to win the prestigious Dougherty Awards for excellence in Communication 2010 by the Local Government Association of NSW and the Shires Association of NSW.  Auburn City Council submitted two successful entries:

  1. Julie Milsom, Auburn City Council’s Event Manager for the Outstanding Individual Contribution Category
  2. Cleaner Streets for a better neighbourhood campaign for the Excellence in Communication Category
Julie won the Outstanding Individual Contribution Award. The Cleaner streets for a better neighbourhood campaign won Highly Commended for excellence in communication. The awards were announced last night at the Local Government Week Awards Ceremony.

Mayor Hicham Zraika is thrilled with the recognition Council received last night: “Julie Milsom has brought passion and commitment to her role as Auburn City Council Events Manager. Her enthusiasm, professionalism and energy, has contributed to achieving excellence in Local Government.”

“She has been responsible for providing the Community of the Auburn LGA with an exciting program of events.  This includes one of the largest festival in Western Sydney: The Auburn Festival and a range of smaller community events. She has played a major role in getting community programs such as the Auburn Markets and Community Pride off the ground. She is truly deserving of this award.”

“It is great to be commended for our efforts in reducing illegal dumping and littering throughout the local government area. This is an issue that I have been campaigning for since I have been a councillor.”

“Our staff have developed an excellent communication campaign which has been very effective through the establishment of a unique partnership program between Auburn residents and Auburn City Council.

“Congratulations to Julie, staff and councillors for their work in achieving better outcomes for our community and responding effectively to their needs through active involvement in programs and events.”
