National Sorry Day
Thursday 26 May
Auburn Town Hall
National Sorry Day is a national day of acknowledgement of Aboriginal history, current issues affecting indigenous people and the way forward towards reconciliation.
National Sorry Day is on Thursday 26 May and marks the start of Reconciliation Week which goes through until Friday 3 June.
This year Auburn City Council will be holding an official ‘Sorry Day’ event in the Auburn Town Hall from 10.30am-12.30pm. National Sorry Day is a significant day in the context of Australia’s history and considers the plight of Indigenous Australians since European settlement and looks to the future seeking positive ways to proceed towards reconciliation.
This event will include the raising of the Aboriginal flag at Council, a ‘Welcome to Country’, guest speakers talking about Aboriginal history, a cultural dance performance by the Aboriginal Advisory Group and an Aboriginal art
demonstration and workshop. The event will then be followed by a light lunch.
