MAJOR ANNUAL EVENTS
Each year, Council hosts a number of major events for the enjoyment of our local residents and visitors.

Auburn Festival – 26 September 2009
Held in September each year, this event is a celebration of colour and culture and is the signature event in Council’s calendar, attracting over 30,000 to the area each year.  With a theme of “Celebrating all Cultures”, it boasts an exciting day of entertainment with cultural performances and world music, over 100 arts, craft, market and food stalls, kids entertainment and amusement rides.

Australia Day celebrations – 26 January
Hosted in conjunction with the Sydney Olympic Park Authority and held each year in Bicentennial Park, our local Australia Day celebrations are a FREE family day out full of entertainment for everyone.

We start the day with a special Citizenship Ceremony and the announcement of our Local Citizen of the Year Awards.  The rest of the day is filled with music, entertainment, amusement rides, community arts and crafts, animals and pony rides.  The day concludes with the screening of a Movie by the Lakeside.

Seniors Week – 21-28 March 2010
NSW Seniors Week is a chance for our local senior residents to get out and try something different – meet new people, experience different cultures and visit different places.  Each year, Auburn Council develops an extensive program of activities to celebrate and recognise the valuable contribution our local seniors make to the community.

Youth Week – 10-18 April 2010
National Youth Week is the largest celebration of young people in Australia.  It aims to encourage young people to share ideas, showcase their talents and celebrate their contribution to the community.  Auburn Council is proud to be involved in Youth Week each year and hosts a local event in conjunction with important partners such as Auburn Youth Centre, Beyond Empathy, Auburn Community Development Network and Auburn Diversity Services Inc.

Refugee Week – 20-26 June 2010
Refugee Week has been celebrated in Australia since the 1980s. It provides a platform where positive images of refugees can be promoted in order to create a culture of welcome throughout the country.  Auburn Council is one of the most culturally diverse areas in NSW and therefore proudly hosts Refugee Week activities each year.
