Major Projects under Construction
Progress of the Former Lidcombe RSL Club
The first stage of the refurbishment of the former RSL club in Lidcombe has been completed. The second floor of the club has been transformed into a vibrant space for meetings, workshops and community gatherings. Council purchased the former Lidcombe RSL in November 2008 to provide improved and more accessible services for the Lidcombe community. The first floor of this building will be used to re-house Lidcombe Library and the Early Childhood Centre.

Susan Street Car Park
Parking problems in the Auburn Town Centre will soon be a thing of the past, with the new Susan Street Car park re-construction well underway with 50% of the building work completed. Once the car park is built, 570 car park spaces will be available. Access to other levels of the car park will be provided by a lift and stairs and a special walk-way will be built from the car park to Auburn Road. The car park will feature wide entrance and exit lanes to further improve accessibility. A ‘community’ artwork will be incorporated on the outside of the car park building to enhance the outlook from Auburn Public Primary School. The new car park is due to be finished late 2009.
Railway Park
Railway Park is the main park within the Auburn Town Centre and is long overdue a complete overhaul, which will provide a beautiful and useful open space for town centre residents. Major works that will be carried out include:
-
Demolition of the existing buildings
-
Vistas from the station entrance will be created through improved layout and planting
-
Safety and security will be increased by allowing unobstructed views from the nearby road and shops.
-
The playground area will be increased and the play equipment renewed
-
Disabled access will be improved through the creation of even and wide paths.
-
New facilities include a new public toilet and small shaded meeting area.
Civil Constructions commenced the upgrade of Railway Park on Monday 15 June 2009. The Park will be fenced off with pedestrian access maintained along existing kerbside footpaths. The anticipated completion date by the end of November 2009.
