Community Development
Auburn Council’s Community Development Team seeks to work in partnership with the community to achieve better outcomes for Auburn. The key focus of the team is to build the capacity of Auburn’s communities to actively engage in a wide variety of social, economic, cultural, recreational, learning and civic activities and to work alongside local not-for-profit organisations and groups to support the valuable work they do.
Council's objectives are to maintain and promote awareness of the social and cultural needs of the local community and to ensure the development of services and facilities in accordance with local needs. The Community Development Team plans, supports and develops a range of quality services and facilities to meet community needs through its social and cultural planning processes, research, events, programs and activities.
The Community Development Team works with, and provides support to, local community organisations, volunteer organisations, stakeholders and residents in the Auburn Local Government Area. It does this through:
- promoting community participation in the planning, management and delivery of services and facilities across Auburn
- lobbying and advocating on issues such as access, aged services, community safety, children’s services, employment, funding opportunities, youth initiatives and community facilities
- working on projects that compliment the work of the community sector and volunteer organisations
- supporting networks and partnerships across the community and providing capacity building and training opportunities
- undertaking social research and program development across the Local Government Area
- providing and sharing information, skills and resources
Council recognises all of the hard work done by community organisations, groups and volunteers. Through our Social and Cultural Plans we aim to support and build the capacity of the community to achieve significant improvement in Auburn’s profile of relative disadvantage.
