Multicultural Services

  • Auburn Multicultural Interagency - Council convenes a bi-monthly meeting  where local service providers network and share information about  issues affecting Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities.  The aim is to develop resources and strategies to meet identified social needs.

  • Activities and events - Council facilitates and coordinates activities and events during NAIDOC Week, Refugee Week, Harmony Day and/or International Women’s Day.  We also work in partnership with local services to develop and implement specific projects that prioritise and target community groups based on need.

  • Cross cultural education programs - Council delivers information sessions directly to Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities on how to access and appropriately use Council amenities.   We also deliver information sessions for community groups on associated issues such as: getting insurance or getting an ABN.  We are involved in cross cultural education projects with schools.  Council staff are kept informed about the activities and needs of local CALD communities via an internal newsletter, reports from meetings and training sessions.

  • Community Capacity Building Projects - Council multicultural community development involves building the capacity of local ethnic organisations and groups, so that they may assist members within their own communities.  Assistance includes facilitating access to resources and encouraging participation in community life.  Council is currently developing a volunteers program and is involved in developing social enterprise projects in the area.

  • Information and referrals -  Council produces a directory of English language services in the Auburn LGA (click on the link above) and maintains information about other community services listed on the Lincs database see www.datadiction.com.au
