Auburn city Council

Auburn City Council serves the needs of approximately 65,000 residents and 1300 businesses. The wide range of services provided by Council include domestic refuse and recycling collection, infrastructure (traffic, roads, drains, street lighting, footpaths, land and buildings and civic precinct), parks, library services, child care, planning assessment and environment protection. Auburn Council employs approximately 250 staff and is represented by 10 elected members (Councillors) from two wards. Councillors have decision making powers regarding council business while Council staff ensure effective service implementation.

The role of the Mayor is to exercise when necessary, the policy making functions of the governing body between meetings of the Council, preside at meetings of the Council, exercise other functions of the council determined by the Council and carry out civic and ceremonial functions of the Mayoral office.
