Parks and Recreation
Council plans and provides a wide range of recreational opportunities and facilities that reflect the community’s needs. Parks and recreation facilities include playing fields, golf courses, tennis courts, swimming pool, cycle ways, playground equipment, picnic settings and vast corridor of open space located along Duck River. Auburn’s Local Government Area over 60 parks and reserves providing in excess of 650 hectares of open space.
Council’s parks and recreation areas are both a locally and regionally significant asset. At a local level Council’s reserves, playing fields, golf courses, tennis courts and open space areas along Duck River cater for recreation uses for the Auburn community. Large regional open spaces include Sydney Olympic Parklands, Auburn Botanic Gardens and Duck River Parklands.
Council’s objectives are to:

Provide a network of public open space that meets, in the most cost-effective manner, the outdoor recreation/leisure needs of the local and wider community; that positively contributes to the enhancement of landscape character and is adequately maintained, safe and functional;

Improve the natural environment where appropriate through the regeneration of remnant native bushland and the use of the environmentally friendly maintenance procedures;

Maximise community benefits with available financial resources.
